Jalan's Services & Requirements for Expecting Mothers
At Jalan we strive to be inclusive, with pricing that’s accessible while providing service you’d expect from expensive luxury spas, and offering services that address all skin types, help with specific needs of teens, men, maturing skin, and also the unique needs and safety precautions for mothers-to-be who are expecting.
If you’re pregnant, you may have heard conflicting information on whether a trip to the spa is safe. Let’s talk more about what to expect when you’re expecting and planning a visit to Jalan.
Requirements for Pregnant Guests
We require all pregnant guests to wait to book either facial or massage services until they are beyond the 1st trimester. This is because certain products used during facials or add-ons are not pregnancy safe in the early stages of pregnancy which is an especially sensitive time.
Recommended Services for Expecting Mothers
Although our services are pared down while we operate at reduced capacity during COVID-19, we do still offer some services that are especially suitable for pregnant women.
The Prenatal Massage enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves blood and lymph circulation, and helps with the fatigue pregnancy can produce.
Our Advanced Reflexology is another great option, offering guided meditation and stimulation of reflex points on the feet. Even for guests beyond the 1st trimester, we require a doctor’s note of approval in advance of the service.
For facial services, our Gua Sha Facial Massage is a wonderful option as it is 40-minutes, so more likely to be comfortable for guests to be on their back during the service.
Services To Avoid for Expecting Mothers
Here’s a list of massage and body services we don’t recommend to pregnant guests:
Seasonal facial specials — these often feature special enzymes that are not pregnancy safe
Facials lasting longer than 40-minutes unless the guest is comfortable laying on their back for extended periods of time
Advanced Facial — this facial features a glycolic enzyme that is not pregnancy safe
While pregnant guests may book the Ultimate Rose Quartz Facial, the high frequency treatment will be removed and the guest must also be comfortable laying on their back for 90-minutes
Add-ons to Avoid For Expecting Mothers
Most of our Add-ons at the spa are safe for pregnant women, except for:
Vitamin C is only safe for those in their second trimester and beyond

Despite these restrictions on select services to ensure a safe and healthy visit for the mama-to-be and baby on the way, there are many benefits to facial and body services during pregnancy after the 1st trimester.
