At-Home Acupressure & Skincare Tips for Managing Seasonal Allergies
From sinus pressure to irritated skin, seasonal allergies can take a toll on our daily lives. Fortunately, there are steps you can take at home to help alleviate some of these pains and annoyances. Let’s dive in!
Acupressure for Sinus Relief
Benefits of Acupressure
Based on the same method as acupuncture, acupressure can help you relieve sinus pressure and other related symptoms. Rather than using needles, acupressure involves placing pressure on points of your face and body with your hands and fingers.
Acupressure at Home
Directions
Stand in front of a mirror so you have clear visibility of your face for the acupressure points on your face. For the points on your body, you can be sitting down.
Apply pressure on the points below for at least 3 minutes per pressure point, using your fingers or a thin object such as the eraser tip of a pencil. You can press on the points or rub in a circular motion over the area.
Repeat these steps throughout the day for several days or until you feel relief.

Protecting Your Skin
Beyond the more common allergy symptoms like sneezing and coughing, your skin can also react to allergens. Allergens like pollen can cause an itchy rash when coming into contact with the skin, or cause an existing skin condition, such as eczema, to flare up. In more severe cases, seeking treatment from a dermatologist may be necessary, but in more mild cases, there are a steps you can take yourself for relief.
Preventative Measures
If you are typically affected by seasonal allergies, there are a few preventative steps you can take to avoid or lessen negative reactions.
Try to avoid spending too much time outside on dry, windy days. The best time to spend outside is after rain, which can clear pollen from the air.
Wear clothing that covers more of your skin, like a light long sleeved shirt or cover up when you’re spending extended periods of time outdoors.
Change out of the clothing you’ve worn outdoors when you go back inside, and rinse your face or even take a quick shower to clear pollen from your skin and hair.
Don’t hang your laundry outside to dry, as pollen can stick to sheets and towels.
Keep your indoor air clean by using an air purifier and vacuuming regularly.
Use a facial mist to help protect your skin from everyday environmental aggressors.
Soothing Sensitive Skin
If you already have sensitive skin, taking steps to soothe your skin is even more important during allergy season.
Choose skincare products with natural ingredients that calm your skin, like calendula flower extract, chamomile flower extract, and echinacea extract, which can all be found in Jurlique’s Calendula Redness Rescue and Moisture Plus Rare Rose lines. You can find these products on the Jalan Online Shop here:
Be gentle with your skin. Remove makeup with a face oil rather than a makeup wipe. Gently press product into your skin rather than rubbing it in. Avoid physical facial scrubs, and use exfoliating pads, like Elemental Herbology’s Skin Resurfacing Pads instead.
Keep a jade stone or rose quartz facial roller in your fridge, and gently massage your face with it to help alleviate swelling and inflammation.
