It’s hard to believe it’s been just over 4 years since Jalan Facial Spa opened! As we head into our 5th year in business here in Denver, we wanted reintroduce ourselves to you, share our history, mission, and thank you for your support through the years — especially a challenging 2020 — with a giveaway.

Jalan’s Mission

Jalan’s mission is to provide an accessible, restorative journey using Eastern-inspired traditions and healing botanicals to ensure guests leave feeling their best emotionally, spiritually, and physically. As we enter our 5th year of business and continue to inspire guests to nurture and restore the value in themselves, we look back to our roots and sister company, HerbaLine.

What is HerbaLine?

HerbaLine was founded by Kim and C.K Low, in Malaysia. In 1994, Kim opened her first facial spa in a humble 200sq ft space within a larger hair salon. In 1997, Kim married C.K., and he joined her in building this new business. By 2000, Kim and C.K. expanded their spa to three branches, and the HerbaLine brand was born. By 2007, HerbaLine had grown to 12 locations throughout Malaysia.

Soon the Jalan Facial Spa concept was born, and with existing ties to Colorado, Kim and C.K. planned to expand their business to the United States. Jalan Facial Spa, officially opened in December 2016 here in Denver, CO is the first extension of the HerbaLine brand outside of Malaysia.

Jalan Facial Spa History

The Jalan Spa oasis you know and love today was built in 2016 in a former Capitol Hill law office. Managing Partner, Cheri Young, and Spa Director, Andrea Soonthornswad worked to transform this space into a beautiful day spa, with elements like a fresh botanical wall, warm, rich natural light, and decor to transport guests into a Malaysian paradise.

Cheri and Andrea hired a team of skilled estheticians and massage therapists and a welcoming group of concierge, to be guided by a dedicated management team. Exceptional guest service is the priority at Jalan, so we are constantly striving to extend more knowledge of skincare and body work to guests, foster relationships, and provide a comforting environment where you can truly let go.

Since opening in the winter of 2016, Denver locals and travelers have been able to escape the busy city streets for a moment of solace and self care.

Spa Elements from Malaysia

Tea

A Lemongrass and Ginger blend, brewed in the spa each morning, will open your mind as you settle into relaxation for your treatment(s).

Red Date tea awakens your senses to assist in the transition from a meditative state into a readiness to get back into the day.

Foot Soak

Upon arrival, guests are invited to wind down with a traditional cleansing foot soak with essential oil infused bath salts that embody the Chinese Element correlated with the time of year.

Natural Skincare

As natural, non-toxic skincare is a priority at Jalan, choosing the prominent skincare brands to carry was given the time and energy it deserved. It was ultimately decided that Elemental Herbology, Jurlique, and Color Up would be used in services and offered in the Jalan Shop, providing a perfect balance of plant based ingredients and skincare philosophies that align with the HerbaLine and Jalan core values.

Elemental Herbology

Founded in 2008, Elemental Herbology sought to create indulgent, natural skin and body care that delivers truly visible results. Made in England, EH supports the responsible harvesting and production of all raw materials from the world’s most reputable suppliers, working with projects that regenerate the environment and local communities. All EH products are 100% free from synthetic fragrance, artificial colors, sulphates, paraben preservatives and mineral oils to ensure your skin is cared for from the inside out.

Elemental Herbology products are also based on the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each product line is based on one of the elements, and created to address specific skincare needs.
